It's day five of my vacation, and we've had a great time so far.  We started by heading up to Healdsburg on Saturday in the early afternoon.  There were eight of us in four cars caravaning from SF, and all in all, we did a pretty good job of sticking together.  When we arrived in Healdsburg, we grabbed some lunch and then did some tasting at a couple of wineries.  Yum.

Then we headed over to the Firefly Lodge - our rental house on the Russian River.  It was fantastic!  Four bedrooms, a big kitchen, a rec room, two decks, a hot tub and river access.  There was plenty of space for us all to be together, or to find our own space.  The river wasn't very deep since the winter was so dry, but we had fun floating down, and paddling back up.  Mostly, I liked to float down and then trick someone into pulling me back up.  But I got what I deserved when Michelle pulled me back up (she was in a kayak), and dropped me off in 3" deep water that was overgrown with algae.  The neighbors at the Firefly Lodge were a treat!  Their dogs, in particular, were wonderful.  They (the dogs) liked to sit on their deck and howl.  They (the people) liked to howl along with the dogs.  In the main hallway closet, we found a bark-controlling device, which we all felt bad about using at first, but after a few hours of the howling, we came to our senses.  The dogs responded really well to the high-pitched squeal, and it only took a few "treatments" and they stopped howling.  The people never actually left their house, so I don't know if the treatment worked on them or not.

We checked out on Monday, and while everyone else headed back to the City to work, WDJ and I drove over to Calistoga where we indulged in a mud bath.  Have you ever had a mud bath?  It smelled like ass, mostly because of the sulfur, but the peat moss contributed quite a bit.  Oh, and the concoction was 104-108 degrees.  Once I got over the stank, I got in the mud.  I wasn't expecting it to be so dense.  It was really quite an experience.

When we had our fill of the mud baths, we drove down to Napa, where we stayed a couple of nights.  We had a couple of yummy dinners, and did some window shopping.

And now we're home.  It's great to be back, but I wish we had a robot to unpack for us.

We just returned from luvhaight and boxboy's wedding, and it was fantastic.  We also spent the 4th of July at poorlytrainedmonkey and robsalot's house, and had a great time setting off fireworks in the street.  I don't think I've ever lived somewhere that it was legal to set off fireworks. While there was an initial thrill, the boxed fireworks are a little lame -- they all look the same.  But we had fun anyway.

Things are finally starting to come together for WDJ and me.  As many of you know, he received a very nice job offer, and will likely accept it, so we likely won't be moving.   The news made people at (my) work cry.  Not because they wanted me to leave, but because they like me so much.  It's great to be liked, but they don't have to cry over it.  The could give me a raise, though.

On Friday evening WDJ and I had dinner with his parents at the Four Seasons.  Dinner was tasty, and on our way out of the building, we encountered some fellows on the elevator.  They were two guys, about our age, each with a beer in hand.  They were apparently at a party that was celebrating the 100th year "anniversary" of a ghost.  Too bad we missed that one.

This afternoon we went to a BBQ at my boss's house, and if I now have plenty of blackmail material to ensure that raise I've been hoping for.

This afternoon, I took a break from work and walked over the Clark center to get a coffee with a co-worker.  About halfway there, it dawned on me that MusicIlliterateDJ wouldn't be meeting me over on that side of campus anymore.  Or at least not any time soon.

The last time I was at the Peets in Clark, I was watching sweet bebitsa for a couple of hours, and the next time I see him, he'll be sweet toddler-itsa.

So sad...

WDJ and I have had a fun weekend so far.  We had an in-house date night on Friday, with some yummy dinner.

Saturday was busy with TejasBrad's birthday at Zeitgeist and dinner with the fam.  Zeitgeist used to be my least favorite SF bar, but we had a really good time yesterday.  I got carded.  I think that might have something to do with the really good time we had.  I'm not sure, but it was fun.  In the evening, Poorly Trained Monkey, Robsalot and MamaR came over for dinner, which was fun.  Someone told a story that made me laugh so hard that I cried.

Good times.

I'm in luvhaight's wedding in a few weeks, and have been worried about my bridesmaid dress for a couple of weeks now.  I ordered it on March 10th, and have been calling to check on it, and they don't seem to know what's going on.  At one point, they thought my name was Marie Nelson.  I had been practicing the speech I was going to give them tomorrow about how lame they are, and they called to tell me my dress is here!  Yippee!  Now, I'll match the other bridesmaids, and luvhaight won't kill me.
